No more metal mouth
When we are enjoying ourselves the most, smiling and laughing with abandon, the last thing on our minds is our dental work. However, if you still have metal fillings, that might be the first thing others notice. The good news is, with advances in modern technology and the use of new composite resin materials, our Destin and Panama City Beach teams at The Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry are able to restore your smile without anyone ever having to know you’ve had a restoration.
What is a Tooth Colored Filling?
Composite resin is a mixture of plastic and glass (silicon dioxide) that can be color-matched with the utmost precision to blend seamlessly with the rest of your teeth – no one will be able to tell the difference. Not only is this a better aesthetic alternative to metal fillings, but the trace amounts of mercury found in metal fillings can be toxic to the human body.
What are Tooth Colored Fillings used for?
Besides the obvious filling of teeth that have become decayed of infected with dental caries (cavities), tooth colored composite resin can also be used for cosmetic purposes – minor changes to tooth shape or color.
What’s the catch?
There is no catch. Tooth colored fillings are just the new and improved version of fillings past, without the glaring reminder every time you open your mouth. They do take about 10-20 minutes longer to place than metal fillings, but will last just as long – approximately 10 years.
