Traditional Veneers
A bright white and aesthetic smile.Traditional Veneers
Do you like the appearance of your teeth or do they have marks and other cosmetic imperfections that make you feel self-conscious about doing anything that might draw attention to them? Our smile is an important asset – one that is capable of showing that we are happy, friendly, open and approachable to those around us. And great teeth are a very desirable commodity. We naturally perceive people with a bright and attractive smile to be more successful and more desirable. Unfortunately, very few people are blessed with naturally stunning teeth. Over the years, wear and tear and the effects of our habits and environment can cause teeth to become damaged and discolored. Their position, though largely determined by genetics, can be affected by our lifestyle too. Such factors can lead to us feeling self-conscious or even embarrassed about our smile. Luckily, cosmetic dentistry solutions mean that there is a multitude of therapies and treatments that can enhance the appearance of our teeth. One of the most effective is traditional veneers.
What are Traditional Veneers?
Traditional veneers are one of the original and most effective cosmetic dentistry solutions. In fact, they are so good at transforming smiles, they are still widely available and popular today, although their design has continued to evolve. Veneers are individual, thin, shell-like covers that are applied to the front-facing enamel of the teeth. Each is custom-designed so that it is a perfect size, thickness, and color to cover the affected tooth without looking any different to the rest of your smile.
Traditional veneers are made from porcelain. Despite their thin appearance, they are actually very strong and durable and provide an additional layer of protection for the teeth. Once they are applied to the tooth, they are securely using permanent adhesive. They may need replacing at some point in the future, but most veneers will last around a decade if they are looked after properly.
The Dental Veneers Process
Dental veneers require patients to make two visits to our offices. During the first, an impression of your tooth will be taken which will be used to create the veneer. This ensures that it will fit perfectly and blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. During your second visit, the natural enamel of your tooth will be filed down so that you are ready to accept your veneer. This is done using a local anesthetic so that it doesn’t hurt. However, it is important to be aware that enamel doesn’t regenerate. This means that once a tooth has been prepped for a veneer, it will always need to have a veneer covering it.
Veneers are applied to the tooth using special adhesive. This is cured so that it hardens, securing the covering permanently to your tooth. Your veneer is then polished alongside the rest of your teeth, completing your treatment.
What Problems can Veneers be Used For?
Traditional veneers can be used to address a variety of different cosmetic dental problems including:
Teeth that are discolored or stained
Teeth that have chips, cracks or other superficial damage
Teeth that have gaps between them
Teeth that are an abnormal height of thickness compared to the rest of your smile
Our dental team will be happy to tell you if traditional veneers are a suitable solution for your cosmetic concerns.
